Luke 4:14-32 ~ Sermon Notes

Figured I should throw some of ideas which were discussed this morning. At least the question that were raised, and some replies:
____________________________________________________________________

1. How do you handle disappointment?

2. In your current life situations, what are your expectations of/on God? What are you looking/waiting/praying for Him to do?

3. How are you expecting God to act; is there a specific, best case scenario, and/or time frame?

4. How are you waiting; what is your emotional/mental mind state while you wait? What are you doing/not doing at the moment?

5. Have you ever been disappointed by God?

6. Refer to question #1

Is it possible that my expectations are outside of the good God has for me?

Is it possible that the best I can see for my life is evil from God’s perspective, and in comparison with the good He desires for me, despite how sincere I am?

Is it possible that we’ve grown so comfortable with “being Christian” or “being good people” or some other label, that we feel entitled to our wants? That we are in a token economy with God: I perform, You deliver.

Is it possible that we’ve grown deaf/numb to the voice of God, because we are too busy trying to make it sound exactly as we imagine it?

“child Of The Night” ~ Ludacris

Now I’m a man of many talents and a man of my word,
But on my path to see the light sometimes my vision gets blurred. It’s all a part of growin up and seein life at it’s worst
Then tryin to iron out my wrinkles, puttin family first.

It seems like the whole world is out for sinkin my boat
But with God as my navigator I’ll be stayin afloat
And I admit to bein caught by many foolish distractions
Then I’m forced to pay the price as the result of my actions

I’m battlin with MYSELF and every DAY it’s a war
Curiosity killed the cat, why am I Curious George?

Gotta keep my nose up outta thangs that ain’t none of my biz
And just cause somethin looks don’t really mean that it is
Get through the agony and anger, the pain and strife
And take the necessary steps to try to change my life

I got some questions for you Lord cause my mentality’s hood
So why is everything that’s bad for me feel so good?

Jesus And Chicken Salad

“Daisy looked up at him with the kind of expression that Jesus might have given someone who had just explained that he was probably allergic to bread and fishes, so could He possibly do him a quick chicken salad:

there was pity in that expression, along with almost infinite compassion.”

~ From Anansi Boys Neil Gaiman.

“wade Or Wait”

Standing on the brink, of this Jordan like life.
Staring at the waves around me
and all this rising tired within.
Will I sink or swim if I jump in?
Lord knows, I think my arms are broken.

Should I wade in the water, or
Should I wait a little longer?
Should I step out on faith
Or rest here in amazing grace?

If you don’t run you can never win or loose
If you don’t risk you can never hope to choose
If you don’t love you can never sing the blues
Or a ballad built for two.

Wade in the water: Wade in the water children

Wade in the water,
He said, wade in the water,
Oh, My son walk on the water

God is gonna trouble the water
God is gonna trouble the water dear children
I know He’s gonna trouble the water

Well who could say that in the middle of my days
That at the gates of hell is where I would play
And it’s not fire, but water it seems that surrounds me?

So I reach up to grab some help
For I know that I can’t raise myself
And it seems like it’s love Himself that has found me.

(So need to re-record this . . .)

My Only Valentine’s Day Poem

Schizophrenia in G minor

when i awoke yesterday
and found you beside me
atlas’ shoulders seemed to settle

as sweet sweat matted hair
hugged your face
in a vertical halo

the classical reprints
adorning our walls
sighed in jealousy

and i was in love

today

you’re a fat
rat nasty cow
and i wish
you would die

happy valentine’s day
