No, stupid. This is the people get shot, drug deals go down, meth gets cooked, prostitutes get cut, children don’t go to school because their parents are in gangs ghetto.
So why the hell are you having a wine party in the midst of it? Why are you standing outside smoking cigarettes in heels and your finery across the street from the bangers?
Didn’t your parents teach you better than slumming this far past the tracks? This isn’t buying pot in Boulder, or doing cocaine in Cherry Creek. Minorities live here! Mexicans and Black!

jesus sits in the smokiest section of every bar,
elbowing up to beer nuts with a proprietary nod
to both sides: an acknowledgment among men.
between sips He smiles quarters, turning their silence
into singing: jukeboxes skipping between the forces
of family and failure, fortune and fidelity. together
they raise a memorial over the dead soldiers,
whose empty lips loosed theirs, as new wine
in ancient skins. another round finds only His drink
