Mercy
after a week of jury duty, a confession:
my mother feels pity. grand theft auto
felonious assault and sexual battery. guilty
on all counts. but mom sees his mother
in the galley sharing the conviction.
my aunt would hear none of it –
all mothers have a duty: where was she
while the crimes were committed? i wonder
if any watched Mary with the same concern?

Faith is a fine institution
For gentlemen who see
~ Emily Dickinson
amidst the peace be still of wind and waves
(rasped from beneath a half dreamt whisper,
the sleep still clinging to lids) He faced
us (who would watch the lame walk
and witness demons dispersed, but wonder
at this worrying of nature and
His): disappointment could be no more painfully
painted upon the face of an inconsolable child
or his fearful, frowning father.

Cool Is
Finding a song you recorded all the music for, but never recorded the words to, and then realizing you remember all the words still, and just need to add them to the rest of the song, which is already finished and recorded.
Yeah.
Why You Can’t Fight With God
Because He doesn’t respond. It’s that simple.
We get pissed off with people and tell them how we feel, punch them in the face, or intentionally ignore them, because we want to get a rise out of them. We want them to feel pain in some way. Mental, physical, emotional, relational pain. We want them to have an experience which communicates in some fashion that they have wronged us, and they must share in the discomfort.
We try to force them into a place where they must reply to us, respond to our attack against them. The stronger and more devious amoung us are sometimes content with not actually seeing the response, but simply knowing that there is one is enough. Knowing the other is reacting in some way to our own displayed discomfort.
This does not work with God.
Not that God doesn’t care, but it seem that he seldom responds in kind. Which for the most part is more than likely an example of Divine mercy.
Still it is a bit of a visceral disappointment.
Music First
I just sang in front of my school for a talent show.
I HATE singing in front of people, but I did. Largest crowd I’ve ever performed for. Well over a hundred. Maybe two. Not sure how many seats the auditorium seats, but it was filled. Like whoa. I purposely didn’t think about that. Just getting through the song.
Highlights:
- First time NOT having the words of the song I was singing in front of me. I’ve finally dealt with the fact that when I do that, my mind is elsewhere and I screw up. No words means I can just sing and play and be there.
- First time having to do the “talk to the audience while tuning” banter. Yeah that was fun. Natural smart ass so that wasn’t too bad. Heckle a few people, throw in some private jokes that my students know, take a couple of shots at the school district, make the people laugh, and explain the song.
- First time stopping a song because the audience feels the need to clap because they’ve gotten into it, but they have no concept of rhythm. I mean, sure it’s cool that people were cheering and clapping, even some on their feet before I sang a word, because they like the “use the guitar as a percussion instrument while you strum” thing that I do, but seriously, if I’m on 2 and 4 ,and you’re on 1.289 and 3.098 we can’t work together.
- (Not the first time, but still nice) Being told to record a CD and that people would buy it and tell their friends to do so also (Remembering that Eric needs to move the hell out here, or I need to move back to the East and maybe doing something like that) - Have fan base, will travel.
Fallout:
- Been asked to play guitar in the school musical (declined)
- People expecting me to record something by the end of the year (prob not)
- Asked to sing at the choir concert (maybe)
I’ll post the song when I have time to record it, unless someone has already youtubed it, which is very possible.
