Life (or Something Like It) Through Other People’s Songs: Part 1

In no particular order:

Note: I’m aware some of these will get me in trouble, or cause confusion - oh well. BFD . . .

New Computer; New Music

Just bought the latest FL Studio and Sonar programs. Trying to fine tune them to work with my laptop.

It’s slow going so far. Annoying really. But I got one this to record so far and not make me vomit.

Time will work out the rest, or I want a refund.

“Waiting” ~ Work very much in progress. Only the instrumental, so much as I have. Words not written yet.

Update:

This is an old song I just found floating around my external hard drive. The first song written from a distance by E and I.

He made the beat, I added the rest.

A Lesson From Joshua

A friend’s retelling of Joshua chapter 24. It’s nice knowing smart people, even (or esp.) when they are just being glib and off the cuff, but profound. (Nice work Smalls)
—————————————————————————————————————–

“Fear the Lord and serve him with all your faithfulness. But if this doesn’t sound good to you, figure it out,” said Josh.

And the people said, “Holy cats, we don’t want to forsake the Lord. We want Him.”

Josh replied, “Well, I hope you know that you’re not able to serve the Lord because he’s holy. He’s also jealous. He won’t forgive your rebellion and sin. He’ll kill you. He’ll cut you.”

“Sign me up!” said the people.

“So, you’re telling me you want to do this, knowing that it’s impossible for you idiots to do?” asked Josh.

“Yes, Josh! Sign us up!” said the people.

“Alright. Go love God and quit fucking up.”

“We’re going to serve God,” said the people.

And, on that day, Josh drew up the papers with the laws and agreements between the quick talking people and God. Josh wrote it all down and then set up a rock. Josh then pointed to the rock when all of the people gathered again, and said, “You see this? It’s going to witness against us–it won’t plead the fifth–it’s like a very heavy, very hard kindergartener that sees and tells. If we mess up, the rock will know. It will know if we’re untrue.”

. . . the metaphor of losing or keeping [holds power. Of choosing who I will serve. . . . there’s something to all this God business. . . . Joshua did have something very pertinent that he was telling the people–you’re going to try and then suck and die. . . in knowing that [we suck, [we know we do need God.

Reassessment

I’ve been reading Billy Collins. This was the result.

reassessment

if you were to ask
you’d hear it’s because

their child has left
to live on campus, and

or her loss of 35 pounds
after lap-band surgery, and

or his big promotion
which included a young secretary

but now their relationship
will go the way of the dog

who was put to sleep
after all those years
of loyal service.
